“I came to Ranken because I wanted to be an electrician. But in my first
year I realized that what really interested me was the computer work and attention
to detail involved in process automation. I am going to graduate this year and
plan to go to work as a control systems technician. Ranken helped me realize
potential I never knew I had.”

Ranken’s Control Systems Technology (CST) program provides students the
education and training to maintain the speed and efficiency of the highly automated
processes and technical systems found in manufacturing plants and engineering
firms.
These companies are constantly seeking control systems professionals to set
up and maintain these processes. Ranging from a few basic instruments to a complex
network of computers and “intelligent” instruments, control systems
are often used to monitor and operate an entire facility from the convenience
of one computer.
Ranken’s CST program prepares students for a career in this industry
by providing instruction in mechanical, electrical, thermal and fluid principles,
as well as hands-on training in installing, calibrating, troubleshooting and
servicing the various parts that comprise a control system.
Through this two year associate’s degree program, graduates are qualified
for positions as general electrical/instrumentation technicians or control systems
technicians, draftspersons, lab technicians, calibration technicians, application
engineers, technical writers and salespersons in the general field of control
systems technology. With three to four years experience in the field, technicians
are eligible to earn between $40,000 and $45,000 per year.
